ENERGY MANAGEMENT
While there are many ways to instantly improve an existing building's efficiency by varying degrees, the overall goal should be continuous improvement. A carefully constructed and strategic energy management plan should be incorporated using a keen understanding of the customer's energy-efficiency goals, all which include budgetary parameters, payback threshold, and appropriate technology for the application. Our goal is to foster a mind-set of ongoing energy planning and accountability.
Let us help you lower your energy costs by discussing what works for your facility:
Free On-Site Assessment
We are happy to meet on site to review your building/project requirements. Establish key goals and identify the most effective means of your reducing energy consumption. A copy of hydro bills can be used to establish a baseline as well as to establish potential rebates available through the saveONenergy program.
Lighting Retrofits
We have performed a wide variety of lighting retrofit projects, including outdoor, commercial and harsh industrial environments. We strive to achieve the best designs to suit their application. Including budget, environmental conditions, efficiency and desired lifespan projections.
Big Ass Fans
Yes, we said it. Install a Big Ass Fan in your facility. Creating constant air circulation equalizes temperatures from floor-to-ceiling and wall-to-wall. A space with even temperatures is more comfortable and less expensive to heat or cool.
Automation and Occupancy Control
Ongoing energy-efficiency improvements can be achieved by automating and upgrading building systems. GR Electric can install measures such as scheduling, occupancy control and daylight sensors.
Capacitor Banks
Capacitor banks improve the efficiency of electrical consumption by improving a customer’s power factor. Power factors are used by hydro companies to calculate a customer’s demand, and businesses are typically penalized for having a power factor lower than 90%. Installation of a capacitor bank is a one-time improvement; however, older capacitor banks are often not operating to their full potential.
GR Electric reviews bills, works with local hydro companies, and tests capacitor banks to identify power factors and determine opportunities for improvement. t.
Monitoring Systems
A strategic energy management plan also helps ensure that initial energy and cost savings don't erode over time. Power meter installations, monitoring services, energy-efficiency analysis, energy bill verification, or implementation of an enterprise energy management (EEM) system can all help achieve this end.
Demand Response
When there is not enough electricity available to meet the demand of all of the customers on the grid, it is sometimes necessary for utility companies to interrupt the power supply to certain areas.
There are programs in place, which offer attractive financial incentives to large industrial customers, willing to participate by reducing their electrical demand during peak periods.
GR Electric can help you to develop, strategize and quantify a load shedding program that is right for you!
Industrial Conservation Initiative (ICI)
Customers who participate in the Industrial Conservation Initiative (ICI), referred to as Class A, pay global adjustment (GA) based on their percentage contribution to the top five peak Ontario demand hours (i.e. peak demand factor) over a year-long period.
Eligible customers are assessed on their percentage contribution to the top five hours of peak demand in the province over a base period. The percentage contribution is also referred to as a customer’s coincident peaks.
Through GR Electric's Peak Demand Day (PDD) notices we will advise you when the top 5 peaks will likely occur and continually monitor in order to quickly detect changes in the forecast demand. Through communication and education, we work with our Class A customers to ensure the minimal amount of lost production while acheiving the lowest possible peak demand factor (PDF).
